CYMEDSEC CONSORTIUM MEETS IN SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO TO PLAN THE ROAD TO IMPACT

The CYMEDSEC consortium met for its General Assembly in San Giovanni Rotondo, hosted by at one of the project’s sites. CYMEDSEC is an EU-funded project on cybersecurity in European digital healthcare. It looks at how medical devices, hospital infrastructure and regulation can stay secure while still leaving room for innovation.

Over two days, partners reviewed where the project stands, discussed its results so far and agreed on priorities for the next phase. The main outcome was a shared commitment to make CYMEDSEC’s research useful to the people who shape and apply healthcare cybersecurity rules.

The projects stakeholder engagement activities should also stay closely tied to EU headline priorities, so that the project’s work feeds directly into the wider European debate on secure digital health.

Partners confirmed they will keep aligning project outputs with the European Innovation Council (EIC) Marketplace and with Horizon Europe’s open science commitments and will do more of this over time. The aim is for CYMEDSEC’s results to be openly available and within reach of innovators, investors and potential adopters, so they can be taken up beyond the lifetime of the project.

The consortium also agreed to widen dissemination beyond the academic community. In the coming months, CYMEDSEC will produce policy briefs and technical white papers for regulators and industry. These will show in concrete terms how the project’s scientific results can inform policy and practice in medical device cybersecurity.

“Future challenges in Digital Health, particularly in the field of remote patient assistance, require particular attention to cybersecurity. The widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence tools further increases cybersecurity risks. The CYMEDSEC project aims to address some of these challenges. Project meetings are not only opportunities to discuss progress, but also valuable occasions for exchanging ideas and sharing experiences. By hosting a project meeting at one of the pilot sites, project partners had the opportunity to experience first-hand the specific characteristics and challenges of such a complex environment.” Said Francesco Ricciardi, Executive Engineer at Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza Hospital
